Pocket Anima Prime
A downloadable game
Over a decade ago, I made this little "pocket" game (2 sides of rules, so they fit onto one double-sided page, plus a few cards) based on the original Anima Prime and inspired by John Harper's Pocket Danger Patrol. I found it in my old files and thought maybe folks could have some fun with it.
This is an action/combat-focused system primarily for one-shot games. Players select a Background card and a Profession card (there are 8 of each), pick a passion from a list, and give themselves a name. That's the entire character creation process.
Outside of conflicts, there's a simple roll mechanic for when PCs try to do something that's not easily done.
During conflicts, there are two actions to take: Maneuvers (to build up strike and charge dice) and Strikes (to use those dice against enemies or hazards, or to achieve goals). The GM awards a bonus from a list based on the descriptions of Maneuvers, making the fiction matter. The PCs' Backgrounds and Professions give them ways to use charge dice for a range of special effects.
As with the original Anima Prime, this game will require quite a few six-sided dice. A few different colors (to differentiate strike, extra, flame, and shock dice) would help as well.

Is this the same one that was posted on the anima prime site or is this a different version?
That one is version 1.1 and this one is 1.2. Slightly updated in several small ways, but I don't remember exactly what those were 😂
Oh, I loved Danger Patrol! I wish it had gotten a fully finished version, but it's great stuff, regardless!
I'm pleased to see this!
Yeah, I had a lot of fun with Danger Patrol back in the day! Who knows, maybe John will get back to it one of these days.
